The integration of the digital Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) program, Sleepio into the Good Thinking London digital wellbeing service, has been celebrated alongside some of England’s most pioneering NHS innovations.
The NHS Innovation Accelerator and Bayswater Institute report, Understanding how and why the NHS adopts innovation, captures real-world insight from innovations in digital, patient safety devices, and models of care that have been successfully implemented within the NHS. The report, launched by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock MP, aims to inform understanding of the adoption and enabling factors that support uptake and embedding of these healthcare solutions within the NHS.
User-driven development and partnership approach
The offering of Sleepio for free to all Londoners via the Good Thinking service was highlighted as a good practice case study, namely for its user-driven development and high-level partnership approach that was taken to maintain focus, secure funding and oversee implementation.
At the launch of the report, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said:
“There are pioneers across the NHS working incredibly hard to implement new technologies to support staff, make every pound go further and improve outcomes for patients – and they should be applauded for their resilience, commitment and tenacity.
“As part of our long-term plan for the NHS, we want to build an ecosystem of enterprise and innovation to allow new projects to flourish and my tech vision is the first step to making this ambition a reality.”
