Transformation Partners in Health and Care > News > London team is shortlisted in UK’s top nursing awards

Tracy Parr, Sara Nelson and the Children and Young People’s team at Healthy London Partnership London, have been announced as finalists in the 2018 RCNi Nurse Awards, the UK’s most prestigious nursing accolades.

Following the awards’ highest ever number of nominations in its 31 year history, a panel of expert judges has whittled down over 700 entries to just five inspirational finalists for each award category, and Tracy and the team are finalists in the ‘Child Health’ category. The RCNi Nurse Awards identify and celebrate nurses who, every day, go above and beyond to save lives, provide outstanding care for patients and transform nursing practice for the better.

Tracy and the Healthy London Partnership Children and Young People’s team have been shortlisted for their “Ask About Asthma” campaign, which aims to improve asthma care for children and young people in London, where 25% of the population is under 18. The unique initiative was born from concerns that care falls short in providing safe and effective access and treatment for young asthma patients. The team led the work which includes an educational online asthma toolkit and educative NHS Go app, as well as the development of a digital passport that hosts care plans on patient’s phones.

The Healthy London Partnership Children and Young People’s team has garnered impressive results with over 75,000 downloads of the NHS Go app, and over 750,000 views of health information pages within the app. The #AskAboutAsthma  social media campaign had an impressive 8 million views raising awareness of good asthma care.

Rachel Armitage, Managing Director at RCNi, said: “The RCNi panel of professional judges voted the Healthy London Partnership Children and Young People’s team as a finalist because of their incredible story and the impact they had on education and care for young people with asthma. With the nursing shortage high on the national agenda, it’s important that we give nurses like Tracy and Sara the recognition they deserve in their current roles, and we look forward to celebrating their work at the awards in July.”

The hunt for Britain’s nursing heroes started back in December 2017, led by Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway, and will culminate in a glamorous awards ceremony on 4th July in central London. Nurses were able to nominate themselves or their colleagues across 14 different categories ranging from Mental Health and Cancer, to Emergency and Student Nursing.

Kate Garraway, RCNi Nurse Awards Ambassador 2018, said “The 2018 RCNi Nurse Award Finalists are all incredible. So often nurses don’t get the recognition they deserve and I can’t wait to celebrate their hard work and dedication at the ceremony in July – if it was up to me I’d crown them all aswinners.”

The team will now go through to the interview stage of the judging process, ahead of the awards ceremony in July.
