London Regional Cancer in the Community Conference

The Cancer in the Community Programme has successfully run 4 cohorts reaching 90 delegates across London in 2022. The collaborative work of Transforming Cancer Services Team for London (TCST), Central London Community Health (CLCH) Academy and Health Education England (HEE) has delivered a very well evaluated and successful programme followed by a regional conference at Stewart House on 4th October.

The Cancer in the Community Conference event was attended by delegates from across London with a mix of Community Nurses, General Practice Nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, AHP’s, as well as system leaders and leading cancer charities.

Key note speakers included:

• Anna McGuinness, Head of Clinical Education Transformation, London region who shared her lived experience of cancer.
• Louise Brady, NHSE National Primary Care Nurse Lead spoke about the value of primary care nurses in delivering personalised cancer care. She was joined by Manchester patient partner Mike Thorpe who shared his cancer story and the value of personalised primary care and being listened to. Patient Voices: Man in the street.
Stewart O’Callaghan delivered a talk on inequalities in cancer care for LGBTQ+AI communities .

The conference delegates heard from leaders and members of communities in practice and took part in a workshop to explore what they would want from a community of practice as well as exploring the barriers and enablers to taking part. Next steps will be to establish a steering group to plan future events.
