Mental health care in primary care - scoping document and literature review

CCGs in London are at various stages of developing and rolling out mental health care models in primary care.  This scoping exercise has been completed to compare current developments in primary care mental health models across the capital.

The scoping exercise has identified many new initiatives where specialist and primary care staff are working together with community-based organisations to provide an enhanced primary care mental health offer. This offer is community-based and in many cases seeks to provide a holistic approach to physical health, mental health and social needs.

A literature review has also been published to provide the evidence base to support the redesigning or further developing of primary care mental health services.

To support clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and GP practices, Healthy London Partnership and the London Mental health Clinical Network are working to produce a set of guiding principles for developing and improving mental health care in primary care.

These principles will be published in Autumn 2017 and aim to help increase the confidence, capacity and capability of professionals working within primary care mental health services across London.
