As part of #AskAboutAsthma 2021 we are hosting daily webinars from 20 – 24th September focused on children and young people’s asthma care. These events are designed for stakeholders across the spectrum of CYP asthma systems in London. Details of these sessions and how to register can be found below.

Ask The Expert CYP and Families webinar (Monday 20 September 12.30 – 13.30)

This webinar is primarily for patients, families and carers as well as health care professionals and will focus on responding to children and young people’s asthma questions.

You will hear from experts responding to the most common questions children, young people and their families have on asthma. It will be chaired by Olivia Fulton, Research & policy volunteer at Asthma Research UK/British Lung Foundation and parent of child with asthma. Nursing webinar (Tuesday 21 September: 12.30–13.30)

The webinar for London stakeholders will highlight best practice and innovation within CYP asthma (individual and organisational), with a specific focus on nursing.

We will hear from Emily Guillmant-Farry (Chair): Children’s asthma community nurse specialist, Newham. Alison Summerfield: Nurse Consultant – Paediatric Respiratory & Allergy, Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust, Sarah Latham: Senior Paediatric Respiratory Nurse Specialist, King’s College Hospital and Natasha Brennan (Nurse practitioner, Paediatric Primary Care, Whittington Health) will lead a case-based discussion on best practice from a nursing perspective. Pharmacy webinar (Tuesday 21 September 19:30 –20:30)

This webinar for London stakeholders is primarily for system leaders, community teams, pharmacists and colleagues who work in a pharmacy setting and highlights best practice and innovation within CYP asthma (individual and organisational), with a specific focus on pharmacy.

You will hear from experts Darush Attar-Zadeh: Respiratory lead pharmacist for Barnet CCG, RightBreathe and Royal Pharmaceutical Society London North West community pharmacy group on Making Every Contact Count and on inhaler technique optimisation and Sukeshi Makhecha: Specialist paediatric respiratory pharmacist, Royal Brompton Hospital and Stephanie Bancroft, Community pharmacist and Lead for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society North West London, on a case study including Discharge Medicines Service review, New Medicines Service review and Structured Medication Review. Whole systems webinar (Wednesday 22 September: 12.00–13.30)

This whole systems webinar focuses on working across and between organisations to improve asthma care for children and young people. You will hear from Oliver Anglin, GP, Clinical Lead for CYP North Central London, Clinical Lead for CYP asthma NHSE (London) on the benefits of integrated working including the setting up of a paediatric asthma network and how to carry out a peer review of services, what the National Bundle of Care for children and young people with asthma means for them as a clinician.

Air quality and asthma webinar  (Wednesday 22 September: 14.00–15.00)

This webinar for London stakeholders will draw attention to the impact of air quality on asthma and lung health more widely, triggers and strategies to mitigate the risk. It is for healthcare professionals and commissioners with an interest in asthma, local authority partners, CYP with asthma and their families.

Primary care webinar (Friday 24 September: 12.30–13.30)

This webinar for London stakeholders will highlight best practice within CYP asthma, with a specific focus on primary care. It is aimed at GPs and practice nurses – plus other healthcare professionals with an interest in asthma, CYP with asthma and their families, primary care and children’s commissioners.

We will hear from Dr Erol Gaillard: Associate Professor in Child Health and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, Leicester NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, University of Leicester, Department of Respiratory Sciences on enhanced annual asthma reviews in Leicestershire primary care using spirometry and Dr Will Carroll: Consultant Paediatrician, Honorary Reader in Child Health, RCPCH Officer for Research, Deputy Clinical Tutor, Editor-in-Chief Paediatrics and Child Health, NIHR – Clinical Research Scholar Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at Royal Stoke, University Hospitals of the North Midlands with a refresher on asthma medication (‘All things inhalers’) for those who don’t see CYP asthmatics regularly.
